Bear Energy is a 6-track EP by Brother Bear himself, Blaklez. It comes ahead of a collaborative album between Cap City's Blaklez and PdotO. Bring out our cooler boxes cause it Summer vibes all around.
In actuality, it's 5 rap joints on the EP. More on that later. Lez is just kickin' it, being playful comedic to some extent. Even though that's the case, its still grootman music hes making. You can tell he had a joyful time making the music. He's accompanied by a feature on four of the tracks, showing the collaborative mood he was in. His list of features includes rappers and singers to bring some melodies to the music.
It's Summer music that leans a lot towards Motswako. The beats are musical, with a blend of what could be Neo Soul and Jazz elements over a 45bpm-style tempo. It brings a nostalgic feel to it. Its maybe for that reason that it was fitting to have a joint called Nostalgia, which features Khuli Chana and Steez on the raps.
Blaklez talks a lot about everyday things in his content. He touches on his struggles and throws in some mack game and comedy to lighten it up. Hes all about enjoying life. He brings in Muziholiq on Song I Like to do some magic while running some dirty mack. Beautiful beat.
The rapping from Blaklez lands well but doesn't drop any jaws, his skill lies in what he has to say. As always, he's articulate with his delivery. He's being easy from start to finish. You know what to expect with Blaklez. He raps well but plays it safe musically. There are some gems and thoughts to pick up though. PdotO comes out guns blazing on Algorithms, raising the anticipation for their upcoming album.
The last track Pierre Issa switches the sound up with what a bonus Amapiano joint. No vocals, just a vibey tune for us to enjoy.
Bear Energy is a good musical product. Easy to digest. Even if these were loosies that Blaklez had in the tuck, they are a good set of loosies.
